Problem fixed: Low power due to bad stator which lead to low fuel pressure in #6 cylinder creating hot spot and blew piston.
Blew piston had to replace sleeve and piston head all accompanying parts from Crowley were here quickly and exactly as promised. Head is rebuilt and ready for install.

Replaced water pump, anode and intake screens. Have done these in past. Hardest was getting lower unit to fit. Made a wood jig to get lower unit on jack to lift it in place. So much smoother install this time

Water pump rebuild kit had all of the components needed, except gasket seals/greases. Which was to be expected. Encountered two unexpected issues, which it would be good to plan for. 1) Brass ring on the old impellor had corroded itself to the drive shaft. Needed to get a cutting wheel for a dremel to remove. Once a deep notch was cut, I was able to split the ring and remove. 2) Shift lever was not quite aligned with the linkage when the lower unit was replaced. Its height was correct but was set slightly too far aft to allow the screw to grab. Needed a long screwdriver (or knitting needle) to nudge back into place, while using a claw tool to reinsert screw holding the shift rod and linkage together.

Removed lower unit and replaced the water pump housing and impeller. These components did not show apparent wear but when replaced made a major difference in water flow through the motor. Crowley offered the complete rebuild kit for this motor

I decided to replace the entire water pump housing and impeller. I followed the provided, written instructions that came with the part and found a great YouTube video showing the steps needed to complete the change out. It's important to check the measurement/ distance of the top of the shift rod to where it enters the case before you re-install the lower unit. The distance can be adjusted to be shorter by turning the shift rod clockwise, and lengthened be turning it counter clockwise. See your owners manual for the correct measurement.

The water pump hadn't been replaced in at least five years under previous ownership, so it was time to replace it as a precaution. Everything went well and the instruction were self explanatory. The only trouble I had was trying to locate the 3M 847 Adhesive...it was nonexistent. I spoke to a boat shop that said the 3M yellow gasket adhesive will do the trick as well as Permatex.

Not relevant to my recent purchase which is for a 90hp FICHT Evinrude, which is up for a waterpump kit replacement as part of maintenance. But, I have done the job on both Johnson 90 and 115hp, and the job is fairly easy. Just be thourough, and careful. Remember the small clip at the top of the motor that has to be loosened and flipped to the side, if not you will break it

Ran Ev. Diagnostic and oil pressure was less than par 0.2 psi per gallon. Replaced oil pump which was purchased through Crowely and it came with updated cd for new revised oil pump/EEM diagnostic update. Overall 45 minute job with a Boot Strap.

Problem fixed: Starter making noise and found solenoid terminal stripped, water pump replacement
Disconnected battery ,removed wiring from starter,removed three bolts from starter, dropped starter down tilted it forward, removed solenoid wires. Attached new solenoid to starter and replaced in reverse order of removal. Still working on water pump due to additional problems found.

As for sporadic temperature alarms replaced thermostats, temp probes and a complete pump replacement. For transmission disengagement under load, lower unit support points had disintegrated and engine movement caused engagement bar to move and disengage, installed two new lower unit points.

Shift rod housing cover had corroded enough to place too much friction on the shift rod. Replaced the cover and gasket when doing the water pump job and back to smooth, easy operation.

A little time consuming and tricky at times. Had to remove the old power head, swap all the bolt on parts and hoses, prep the mid section and apply the gaskets provided. After it was all back together found TDC, set the timing and it’s now ready to break in.
