Problem fixed: None - General Maintenance

The water pump hadn't been replaced in at least five years under previous ownership, so it was time to replace it as a precaution. Everything went well and the instruction were self explanatory. The only trouble I had was trying to locate the 3M 847 Adhesive...it was nonexistent. I spoke to a boat shop that said the 3M yellow gasket adhesive will do the trick as well as Permatex.

Problem fixed: Intermittent cranking problem

Basically, the original solenoid would still ”click” at start, but there was enough other resource demands (voltage drop) that combined with some resistance to drop the volts below 10v and the motor would not start. But once the fuel pump stopped priming and the system check completed, there would be enough juice to fire right up. Removing the original solenoid from the motor, except the “trigger switch” we determined there was 112 ohms of resistance. Thankfully, I had suspected a possible solenoid and purchased a new one earlier in the week. So we hooked it up to the trigger switch, turned to start and got less than 60 ohms of resistance. Half the resistance of the original solenoid that was still able to function when warm. Replaced the solenoid and copper washer and all is well. Cranks right away without waiting for the system check.

Problem fixed: VRO oil pump assembly leaking. bad idle, low oil

Removed offending part while carefully not dropping the torx head screws. Installed new oil pump and connections. Worked great, no alarm and the idle was better. Now for the carbs.

Problem fixed: Engine low water pressure and temperature high alarms

Rebuild water pump. It is medium difficulty for a single person and I could do it now in less than 2 hours. Learning where all bolts are hiding and having help to place lower unit back in place would make this an easy job instead of medium. Things I did right was ensure motor is in gear before removing lower unit, grease parts and shaft splines before replacing and built a quick u shaped plywood top on some legs to hold unit while rebuilding water pump.

Had to completely disassemble bicycle, restore all reusable parts, and do extensive search for non repairable pieces. Took over one month to locate exact original replacement parts and 60 hrs labor to bring back to new condition. The Evinrude/Johnson outboard motor grease was recommended by a number of online bicycle repair experts for wheel bearings and fork head bearings to provide good water resistance and quality lubrication.
