This kit contains hardware to adapt Evinrude® and Johnson® 9.9 and 15 1974 thru EN (1992) models to remote control.
Emergency Stop Switch
CD ('86) and newer motors have an emergency stop switch built into the steering handle. This switch is disconnected when the handle is removed.
Accessory dash mounted emergency stop switches are available (not included in this kit) and are recommended:
If the boat steering is sensitive.
If the boat is unusually light or fast.
If drivers seat is less than 12 in. (305 mm) below gunwale.
Electric start motors can use a remote control with an emergency stop switch (and key switch) built in, or a separate dash mounted emergency stop switch (and key switch). Manual start motors can use a separate dash mounted emergency stop switch.
Installation of this kit involves procedures that require special training for the installer. The installation may also require special tools, supplies and/or Service Manuals and other literature.
Service Technicians at your Evinrude/Johnson Dealer have received special training and have the special tools, supplies, and reference literature to service this product. We recommend that you have this kit installed by your Evinrude/Johnson Dealer.

Collect hand tools plus the following tools and equipment:
Triple-Guard® 0508298 grease
Rosin core solder
Heat shrink tube
Install _Snap-In®_ Shift Cable
Disconnect battery cables from battery.
Turn slow speed knob to centered position, and remove it.
Remove air silencer cover and base.
Remove two plastic plugs from starboard side of lower motor cover. Attach shift bracket (1) to motor cover with screws (2), and locknuts (3).
Pull motor end of cable casing guides (A) and lubricate brass sleeves (B) with Triple-Guard® grease.
Assemble shift connector (4) to casing guide (A). Insert connector pin (5) thru shift connector and casing guide. Insert cotter pin (6) and spread ends to secure.
Put motor in NEUTRAL and attach shift connector (4) to shift lever. Press lock pin (C) IN and rotate 90° to lock in place.
Put control in NEUTRAL. Loosen detent screw (D), and turn detent clip (E) aside. Turn shift cable trunnion until it fits in the center of shift bracket pocket. Lubricate pocket, close detent clip, and tighten screw to secure.
Emergency Stop Switch
If an emergency stop switch is installed it should be located on the dash or gunnel near the control Follow the instructions included with switch.
Relocate Stop Switch
There are three choices for the location of a new stop switch (if used); A dash or gunnel location near the control, the steering adaptor bracket, if remote steering is used, or in a hole (F) that can be drilled in the steering bracket.
CD ('86) and newer models use the stop switch and mounting ring supplied in this kit. Earlier models can reuse stop switch from motor without grommet. A new terminal pin (7) and ring terminal (8) are provided so new stop switch can be used on earlier models, if required.
1974 Thru CO (1985) Models
Disconnect switch and remove nut and washer securing stop switch to front of lower motor cover. Remove switch. Discard bushing behind switch.
Find a suitable location for the stop switch (9) and drill a 5/8 in. (16 mm) mounting hole if required.
Measure from remote switch location along gunwale to centerline of motor. Allow extra length so that wires are not tight when motor is turned.
When stop switch is located near remote control, cut off the stop switch terminals. Cut 16 gauge wire to required length. Splice wires using rosin core solder and shrink tube.
Route stop switch wire thru mounting ring (10), mounting hole, and stop switch nut (11). Tighten nut securely.
Clamp wires securely along gunwale.
Manual start models - Remove solid grommet (G) in front of lower motor cover. Cut a hole in the center of grommet approximately 1/4 in. (6,3 mm) in diameter. Reinstall grommet.
Electric start models - The electric start leads (H) go thru a cable grommet (I). These leads can be pulled to the side to allow the stop switch leads to pass thru the grommet.
Manual and Electric Start Models - Route leads under carburetor and along port side of motor. Attach terminal ends as required, and connect stop switch wires to motor.
Modify or Remove Steering Handle
1974 Thru CO (1985) Models
Remove steering handle grip screw (J) and handle grip (K). Discard frication block (L) and spring (M) in steering handle (N) and replace handle grip. Use plug (12) in lower motor cover if handle is removed.
CD (1986) and Newer Models
The steering handle must be removed on CD ('86) and newer models.
Loosen bolt (O), and lift starter assembly and bolt aside. Do not pull bolt (O) out of starter.
Remove and discard trunnion screw (P) and trunnion retainer (Q). Remove throttle cable ball and socket connector (R).
Remove screw (S) from steering handle. Remove grommet from lower motor cover and remove throttle cable and stop switch wires. Remove plug (T) from lower motor cover.
Install _Snap-In®_ Throttle Cable (all models)
Install throttle cable following instructions in Throttle Trunnion Connector Kit, P/N 0435448.
On CD ('86) and newer models slide spring (13) over stop screw (14). Install screw in threaded flange (D) under stator plate.
Reinstall air silencer base and cover.
Reinstall slow speed knob in centered position.
Reconnect battery cables.
Follow the complete adjustment and operating procedure supplied with remote control.
Post Installation Tests
Put control in neutral. Start motor.
Check operation of shift and throttle.
Stop motor with stop switch or emergency stop switch.
Turn motor lock to lock in both the trimmed in and tilted up positions. Check for interference between cables and wires, and other parts of boat. correct all possible interference before operating boat.
