Problem fixed: leaking gear case seal
I don,t understand why the companies were making some things so complicated back in the 70s / 80s. removing the seal on this out board can be a nightmare if you don't know how to do it. The bolts that holding the cover of the gear case are Philips screws and when you are no the first to replace the seal you can have a really bad surprise when trying to unscrew theses bolt. I manage to remove them using an impact screw driver. I assume the allen key was not an option back then. To remove the seal you practically need to destroy the old one without touching the sleeve obviously. At lease the parts from Crowley were fitting like a glove. I've actually made a quick video about starting this out board after 8 years in storage. https://youtu.be/pWVifeqtPDs

Problem fixed: Overheating at higher RPMs
Found a You Tube video on how to disconnect the shift linkage (it's different and easier than most engines, but it's NOT in the factory or aftermarket manuals!) He didn't go into how to change the water pump, but it turned out to be pretty straightforward. The old impeller was missing one finger, and two others were cracked, so it wasn't moving much water. I did find some videos for other Mercury engines that talked more about the pump change part of it, and those were also somewhat helpful. It pumps water like crazy now!

Problem fixed: routine changing of the water pump impeller
disconnect shift rod using 2 -10mm wrenches.Remove gearbox lower end of outboard, disassemble water pump, be sure to note rotation direction of shaft to put impeller in the same way. Beware of small key that is easy to lose but a new one is included with repair kit anyway. reassemble, centering pump housing so it doesn't rub on shaft. Don't forget to reconnect shift rod after gear box is being installed. Don't run engine with impeller dry!

Problem fixed: Motor over heats no water thru tattle tail hole
Using a shop manual followed instructions for removing lower unit. With new parts layed out I disassembled pump. I found the impellor had separated from brass center. Cleaned surrounding area and reassembled following directions carefully. It really isn't that hard. Reinstalled lower unit and started motor to test pump.
