Problem fixed: Engine would not idle
Engine would not idle. Removed the intake silencer and noticed that the plastic roller on the carburetor throttle had started to disintegrate from heat and old age. Ordered a new roller and carburetor top cover gasket, removed the top cover, installed the new roller, gasket, bolted the cover back on the carburetor, adjusted the roller to cam contact point. Started motor. Motor now idles and revs smoothly. I have three Johnson two stroke outboard motors. They are incredibly reliable and with a little routine maintenance they will perform day in and day out for many years. Thanks to vendors like Crowley Marine OEM parts are still available to keep these motors on the job.

Problem fixed: New Timing Base and Stator
Flywheel was severly stuck. Surprised about that for my very clean engine. The puller kept creeping ever so slowly. Then popped! Went up about 2 feet and came down on the transom! Luckily no damage done to the magnets. Old timing and stator removed. Installed the kill wire, an then installed the base and stator, routed the wires, plugged them in put back on the flywheel and torqued down the 1 and 5/16 nut. You need a 3/4” drive. She started right up. Timing is a PITA to do on this motor, but will be done.

Problem fixed: Motor would stall every 30-60 s unless gas bulb was squeezed.
Figured it was the fuel pump so that is what I ordered from Crowley, along with new gas line ties. It is one of the easiest repairs. Took off the cover, unscrewed the bolts, removed the ties for the gas lines, and pulled them off, pulled off the old pump, scraped off the old gasket and its residue and then put on the new pump with gasket, reattached the two gas lines (one of them had to be cut shorter because the new pump has slightly different alignments) with ties, screwed the bolts back on and that was it. Motor runs fine now with no stalling. The old pump looked indeed to be in bad shape. I bought this motor used last year.

Problem fixed: Used motor Unk history poor idle
Bought a 1987 14ft Sylvan open bow with 1987 Johnso 48 SPL outboard. Unk history on motor. It was hard to start, poor idle, and didnt want to stay running. I am slowly going over the entire motor, cleaning it up, and replacing broken, worn items. So far it has 150psi on both cylinders. I have now rebuilt the carbs, changed out the rectifier, pulled the flywheel and changed the stator and ignition sensor, replaced the throttle cam roller, cleaned out and lubed numerous items. Waiting for warmer weather now so I can fire her up and finally fine tune it...

Problem fixed: Engine ran perfectly at full throttle but stalled every 100 yards at trolling speed.
I put fresh gas and fresh plugs in it. Changed the gas line from the tank. Called a boat mechanic and was told it sounds like a weak diaphragm in the pump. Did a search online using my serial number off the engine Crowley marine popped up with the year of my engine Searched there website for the pump I needed and there site had everything for my engine. Ordered a pump from Crowley marine. Installed pump Test ran it for two days and no issues since.
