Problem fixed: Replacement of the Impeller

Replaced the impeller and thermostat. I was having a pathetic dribble from tell tale. I had accidentally drug the skeg on my driveway. No damage to lower unit. Got to the lake and lo and behold no tell tale. It would come and go. All I can figure is that the engine has some scale built up in it and by dragging the skeg it shook things loose and restricted the tell tale. All is well now I believe I could have gotten by with putting the old impeller back in but went ahead and replaced it. Now I know to do it every other Cinco De Mayo. Thanks to Crowley for the lower unit bolts and the thermostat kit with gaskets.

Problem fixed: cylinder gasket leak. On the Yamaha you change the head gasket at the same time.

Remove head and cylinder cover. Clean all mating surfaces, and buff with 400 grit. Reassemble Torque. Run up to temperature and let cool for 3 hours. Re torque.

repair not complete. tried to drill out bolts. could not get bolts all the way out. filled holes with epoxy then drilled and tapped ..this is the cover of thermostate In hind site I shoud have drilled and tapped the bolt stubs.

Problem fixed: No water flow after impeller change

Had to pull both plates that covered water ports. One on the side and one that covers the cylinder heads. Flushed out all holes and now have great water flow. Ordered two gaskets for the plates and a thermostate.

Problem fixed: Inner Exhaust Cover

Bought a second hand motor that was getting water in the exhaust. Found someone had done a dodgey repair of the inner exhaust plate cover. Took the cover off, stripped old gaskets off and cleaned up, resealed with new inner and outer gaskets as well as new inner cover. Running perfectly now.

Problem fixed: Cooling water cover on head developed a hole.

Attempting to remove cooling cover off head resulted in snapping off retaining bolts. Removed and replaced entire head assembly which was fairly easy and allowed inspection of bore and piston. All went well !!

Problem fixed: Minor engine overhaul

Got a good running 9.9 that I put a 15hp reed valve in. Re-propped it. Did the lower case seals, water pump, thermostat, plugs, carb rebuild, etc. A good once over. Engine runs very well now!

Replaced water pump, poppet valve, spark plugs, impeller kit, and lower unit oil. Lessoned learned: Check the gear shifter connection and flush good with a garden hose up the water tube to ensure good water flow.

refer to you tube on the water pump replacement , first build a stand for the lower end makes all the difference standing up , as well as the thermos starts, YOU TUBE is perfect for this as well , getting the right parts in hand is key to both jobs / plugs every other year , cheap money and no SEA TOW at all .

Problem fixed: Motor over heating.

I purchased outboard, boat and trailer for $1.00. All water cooling passages in motor were clogged with salt. Piston rings were melted into aluminum pistons from over heating. Block, pistons and cylinder head were not salvageable. Still waiting on a few parts. Should have a good little outboard for about $600.00.

Problem fixed: No water coming from the motor while running.

Removed lower unit and replaced all water pump parts. Replaced thermostat and gasket. Removed water jacket and exhaust plate. Found pieces of rubber throughout these areas. Cleaned and replaced all gaskets and reassembled. Running like new.

Easy to find the parts needed. After the order was placed, I noticed that one key part was backordered. I asked if I could cancel the order because I needed everything to arrive together for the project. The answer was an easy yes. I also recieved a quick follow up email that said that the backordered part was resolved and everything shipped together. I will use Crowley again. Shipping was quick too.

Problem fixed: Remove and replace water impeller assembly, water channel cover gaskets and thermostat / posit valve.

Pretty straight forward repairs. Be careful of the water cover bolts. They are steel, can be corroded and are easily broken. Heard this info from a Yamaha mechanic. Otherwise no issues and all of the parts worked perfectly. I used the schematics on the website to order all of the parts to ensure I had everything needed for a total replacement. I just bought the boat so I replaced the entire impeller assembly and housings. I’m confident now in the motors cooling operation.
