1989 25 hp mercury

Repair Difficulty: Hard

Problem fixed: Water in lower unit

Dismantled gearbox. Made up a puller to remove driveshaft needle bearings. Took some doing removing bearings off reverse gear. Press all parts together with vice and reassemble. Moved at a slow pace and all seems ok

Problem fixed: tune-up & water pump

the carburetor overhaul was just as described in the Seloc manual. However, the water pump replacement instructions were not very good. in fact, it didn't look anything like my pump. the exploded view diagram that came with the pump kit was a lifesaver. Also, this manual totally leaves out the important steps of how to disconnect the shift linkage. some advice on how to be sure the reverse lockout is set correctly would have been very helpful as well. Not sure i'd recommend that manual yet. definitely should be cautious if you are considering buying it. oh, i did find something on you-tube about disconnecting the shift linkage. it was for a different size Mercury outboard but it helped me out.
