Problem fixed: Oil leak around oil reservoir cap.
On my 25 year old engine the wires are routed underneath some electronic units which are mounted to the engine using stand offs. I had to be very careful removing and re-mounting those without losing the screws or stand offs. Other than that is was fairly straight forward. If I were to do it again, it would be quicker and less nerve racking to just cut and splice the wires together.

Problem fixed: Low oil alarm kept going off, replaced module, still going off, troubleshot found the problem.
After replacing the oil control module the low oil alarm finally shut off, for a few days. After it set off again I troubleshot per the service manual and determined that the module was good, etc. After removing the cowl I noticed a lot of oil entering the water and traced it back to a crack in the oil reservoir cap, under pressure leaking oil was observed. I ordered a new cap assembly from Crowley and replaced it, cleaned the electrical ground, stared the motor.............no alarm! Everything appears to working as required. The cap was defective.

Problem fixed: Oil reservoir sensor cap cracked
My oil reservoir sensor cap was cracked either from age or over-tightening by previous repair. The IDENTICAL "Quicksilver" Mercury part was identified on their website, and ordered, and took less than 4 days to arrive. Since the oil cap on the engine was cracked, and rather than attempt to remove multiple wiring harnesses, and oil tanks, I removed the replacement connectors from the wiring, and, spliced the wires to the already attached wires, using heat shrink tubing to insulate the repair. Works perfectly!
