Problem fixed: Low water flow out of tattletale
I took the lower unit off thinking I was going to put a new impeller in the water pump and the drive shaft was loose it had damaged the water pump housing. I dug deeper into the lower unit discovered the bearings on the drive shaft were bad, the drive shaft was damaged where it had been rubbing on the water pump housing, I didn't replace the drive shaft I believe it will be ok but maybe replacing. The lower unit is pretty basic if you are a mechanic two special tools required, spanner wrench for the two retainer nuts and a bearing puller. Retainer nuts: one is on the drive shaft the other is on the output shaft behind the impeller. Bearings: Drive shaft lower bearing need to be pulled into place I froze mine first and made a puller out of all thread and a couple of washers the other bearing on the drive shaft I heated in a oven and it slid right in to place. The yoke gear shift can be a little bugger to put in. One will probably break the retainer nuts getting them out as they can be froze in place I had to drill the drive shaft retainer out and take it out in pieces. If you are not a mechanic I would take the lower unit in and have a boat mechanic repair it.
