Port entry steering
: Lay motor on work bench. Remove the port tilt tube locknut (A). Have someone hold carrying handle (B) and return spring (C) (behind handle) in position as you pull out tilt tube.

[2]
! Install tilt tube in the opposite direction. Spring must hold carrying handle DOWN. Thread locknut (A) onto tilt tube. Torque locknut to 50-54 ft. lbs. (68-73 Nm) and loosen 1/4 revolution. Make sure a minimum of 5/8 in. thread (D) is exposed for attaching steering cable anchor nut.

Replace any locknut if its locking feature becomes weak. Definite resistance to tightening must be felt when reusing a locknut.

Align steering link (B) with steering cable ram and engine steering arm.

Position washers (C) above and below steering cable ram.

Install locknut (D). Torque to 7-8 ft. lbs. (8-11 Nm) and loosen locknut 1/8 revolution.

Hold locknut (E) in cavity under steering arm.
