Contents of Kit

Ref. Name of Part Qty.
1 Knife Connector Tubing 1
2 Knife Connector 1
3 Ring Terminal 1

Position neutral start switch in remote control with roller (A) in slot of shift arm gear. Secure neutral start switch mounting bracket to remote control with two screws (5). Press grommet and wiring in channel (B). Be sure wires do not interfere with the control operation. Route leads from neutral start switch to key switch.

[3] [4]
For a Ring Terminal Key Switch:

  • Cut off both bullet connectors (C) and install knife connector (2) and ring terminal (3) to end of wires.

  • Connect ring terminal from neutral start switch to "S" terminal on key switch.

  • Connect neutral start switch knife terminal (2) to instrument harness yellow/red knife terminal (D). Slide rubber sleeve (E) over connection to prevent shorting.

[5] [6]
For a Bullet Terminal Key Switch

  • Connect one neutral start switch wire (F) to the "S" terminal (G) of the key switch.

  • Connect second neutral start switch wire (H) to the key switch cable bullet connector (I).

Neutral Start test

To prevent engine from starting, separate the connector between the charge coil and the power pack, or disconnect all spark plug wires.

Note: Operating outboard out of water, even momentarily, will damage water pump and eventually cause powerhead damage.

Connect battery cables to battery.

This neutral start switch is designed to allow engine to crank in NEUTRAL only. If control handle is "in gear," starter will not operate. Test the control to make certain starter motor will NOT operate when control handle is in FORWARD or REVERSE and WILL operate when handle is in NEUTRAL.

  • Move control handle to NEUTRAL.

  • Turn key to START position. The starter motor should operate.

  • With the key still in start position and starter motor cranking engine, move control handle to FORWARD. The starter should stop as control leaves NEUTRAL.

  • Release key and move control handle to NEUTRAL.

  • Turn key to START position. The starter motor should operate.

  • With the key still in START position and starter motor cranking engine, move control handle to REVERSE. The starter should stop as control leaves NEUTRAL.
