Johnson/Evinrude V6 Gearcase Installation

[1] 1. Coat the driveshaft splines with OMC Moly Lube. Do not coat top surface of the driveshaft as lubricant here may prevent seating of the driveshaft in the crankshaft.

[2] 2. Apply OMC Adhesive M sealant to the lower exhaust housing seal inner surfaces. Position two new seals A on the housing. Apply OMC Triple-Guard grease to the seal's outer surfaces, and position the housing on the gearcase.

3. Rotate the propeller shaft and shift the gearcase to FORWARD.

4. On relieved split-line exhaust housings, apply OMC Gel-Seal II to gearcase mating surface pads. Slide the gearcase into place, making sure the driveshaft engages the crankshaft, the water tube enters the water pump, and the lower inner exhaust housing does not slip out of position.

[3][4] 5. Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to threads of the gearcase retaining screws. Install the screws and tighten as follows:
3/8 in. screws: 26-28 ft. Ibs. (35-38 N.m)
7/16 in. screws: 45-50 ft. Ibs. (61-68 N.m)

6. Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to threads of the trim tab screw. Install the trim tab and align it with the index marks. Tighten the screw to 35-40 ft. Ibs. (47-54 N.m).

[5] 7. Engage the shift rod in the shift rod link and secure with screw B.

8. During break-in period of a reassembled gearcase, change the gearcase lubricant between 10 to 20 hours of operation.
